On Monday 3 June, Shakeel Mohamed submitted his letter of resignation as Leader of the Opposition. He held this position since 16 April 2024 after Xavier-Luc Duval resigned on 15 April. The parliamentary session of 21 May was thus the last one of Shakeel Mohamed as Leader of the Opposition. He was expelled and suspendedon that day. On Friday 7 June, for the presentation of the 2024-2025 Budget, Dr Arvin Boolell will be Leader of the opposition, position he occupied after the legislative elections of November 2019 until March 2021.

Shakeel Mohamed has held the position of Opposition Leader since the resignation of Xavier-Luc Duval on April 15, 2024. As Arvin Boolell was convalescing at the time, the Labour Party awarded the post to the Port-Louis MP.
