On Thursday mornig, the police confirm that they will not object to Akil Bissessur’s release on bail as per the assurance before the Judge David Chan. At the request of the lawyers of the lawyer, the latter had issued an order of habeas corpus. Following which, the police has taken the suspect, Akil Bissessur before the Judge.
Mr. Akil Bissessur arrived at the Supreme Court at around 09:30 on Thursday morning and was represented by an army of lawyers, namely Shakeel Mohamed, Ashley Hurhangee, Rama Valayden, Yatin Varma and Ruben Mooroongapillay. Akil Bissessur had spent the night in the Moka detention center after being arrested for the publication of the identity and photo of a police officer, who he believed was among those who arrested Darren L’Activiste at Camp Levieux.
In the afternoon, Akil Bissessur was released on bail. In the Rose-Hill Court, the police indicated that they had no objection to the release of the suspect on bail, for which the amount was fixed at Rs 25,000. But the lawyers of Akil Bissessur asked for a revision of the amount, which was then reduced to Rs 20,000. The suspect must also sign a debt recognizance of Rs 100,000. A provisional charge of violating the ICT Act has been lodged against him.
It should be noted that other bail conditions have been imposed to release Akil Bissessur, namely the latter is not allowed to post anything on social media. Akil Bissessur will have to be in Court on 18th May.
