The Air Bubble between India and Mauritius has been approved. The sanitary restrictions imposed last October have been lifted and now the question is around the twice-weekly flights. On Saturday 13 November, a delegation of 13 Indian tour operators will arrive for a week’s visit/market research of our paradise island. The air bubble agreement between India and Mauritius shall hugely facilitate smooth travel between both countries and at reasonable tariffs. Yet one more example of the close friendly relationship between Mauritius and India “
A great opportunity for recovery
This ‘Travel Corridor’ is a set of systems established between two countries that perceive each other as safe and allow carriers of both countries to carry passengers in both directions without any restrictions. This is the agreement that has been signed between Mauritius and India. As a result, business will gradually resume but on a firmer footing away from any paranoia or psychosis. “This is a very, very good opportunity that will benefit the country. During the pre-covid period, we were receiving a minimum of 80,000 Indian tourists in a year. We remain realistic but ambitious,” said Arvind Bundhun, the Chairman of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority.
Visit of the 13 Indian tour operators
He indicates that the marketing and networking campaign has remained very active with visibility maintained in India both in BtoB and BtoC. “We are expecting this Saturday the visit of 13 Indian tour operators who will spend a week in Mauritius to evaluate the market, according to their criteria. Our destination is already attracting a lot of interest from Honey mooners as it is the wedding season in India, or even from the film industry for shootings that have already been scheduled and eventually, for the potential tourists“, says the Chairman. However, nothing is yet confirmed about the traditional bi-weekly flights. “The question is still under discussion and will depend on demand. If the two flights per week are maintained we can expect to receive 600 arrivals from India per week. This will greatly help our tourism and economic sector.”
Sustaining revived tourism
The MTPA aims at sustaining the revived tourism. “The quarantine imposed on all is no more and the population of infected visitors is only 0.1%. Tourism on the island is practically without major risks if the sanitary measures are respected and applied by both tourists and Mauritians,” concludes Arvind Bundhun. Let us be optimistic!
