Very happy, 49 Agalegans are finally on their way home after all this time spent away from their families. Blocked in Mauritius since the closure of the borders, the Agalegans are finally returning home, this Wednesday, September 29, 2021. It is only after their demonstration in the capital and the sending of several letters addressed to the Prime Minister, that they were able to board the MV Trochetia to return to their island this afternoon.
“After a stay in quarantine and the administration of a vaccine against Covid-19, they all tested negative,” said Franco Poulay, spokesman for the Agaleens.
When Franco Poulay was informed that the 45 Agaleans included in this trip will have to be vaccinated against Covid-19 before their departure, he was quoted as saying:
“We are not against the vaccine, but we must respect the choice of each person and not impose it. Some families are reluctant to be vaccinated,” said Franco Poulay.
The Outer Islands Development Corporation, which manages Agalega, has informed Poulay and his compatriots that the MV Trochetia, which was undergoing repairs in Sri Lanka, will be operational again to transport them to the archipelago.
