Mauritius won its first gold medal in Ghana with the women’s team time trial yesterday at the 19th African Road Cycling Championships. The junior men’s team of Mauritius won the bronze medal.
Composed of Raphaëlle Lamuse, Aurélie Halbwachs, Kimberley Le Court de Billot and Lucie Lagesse de Marigny, the Mauritian selection outclassed its opponents to reach the top step of the podium.
With a time of 52:16 over 36 km, the Mauritians beat the Namibian team (53:37) and Rwanda (54:01). Five teams lined up for this event.
As for the junior men’s team with Samuel Queveauvilliers, Jérémy Raboude, Gael André and Alexis Ong Tone, they won the bronze medal in 50:25 over 36 km. It is the Algerians in 47:55 who were crowned in this category. The Moroccans won the silver medal in 49:54.
The elite men’s race was largely dominated by Algeria in 40:55 while Mauritius finished in fifth place in 48:48.
This Thursday is the individual time trial.
