A collision between two motorcycles on the highway from Les Guibies, Pailles towards Reduit claimed the life of Mohammad Ibrahim Anwar Elahee, a 43-year-old Central Electricity Board (CEB) technician on the evening of Saturday May 11. The other motorcyclist, aged 62, suffered minor injuries. An autopsy on Anwar Elahee’s body attributed his death to multiple injuries.
The accident occurred at around 7.05pm on Saturday May 11th on the Les Guibies, Pailles freeway, near the Somnath mandir in the direction of Reduit. Two motorcycles were involved, a Suzuki driven by a 62-year-old man from Camp Chapelon, Pailles, and the victim on a Yamaha. The victim, who lives in Plaine Lauzun, was killed instantly. The victim was pronounced dead by a doctor from the Emergency Medical Service who attended the scene.
An autopsy was carried out on her body on Sunday morning May 12 at the morgue of the Dr A.G.Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis. The autopsy, performed by Dr Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to multiple injuries.
An investigation has been launched at the Pailles police station to shed light on the exact circumstances of this accident. A Central Water Authority driver has come forward as a witness in the case.
According to initial information from the investigators, the victim was driving almost in the middle of the slow lane. At a certain point, he approached to the left, and in doing so collided with the sexagenarian’s motorcycle. The two men ended up on the asphalt. Anwar Elahee was seriously injured and succumbed to his injuries.
The 60-year-old was arrested and taken into custody. On Sunday morning May 12, he was brought before the Bail and Remand Court (BRC) in Port-Louis before being released on bail. On Monday morning, May 13, he went back to court for the proceedings.
