This is the main information that came out during the Private Notice Question on the baby who is in critical condition at the SRH hospital. In her answer, Kalpana Koonjoo-Shah explained that on July 27, a woman left Jeetoo Hospital against medical advice, abandoning her child. The child once medically discharged was placed at the Oiseau du Paradis, a facility in Cape Malheureux run by the National Children’s Council.
The minister said that on October 21, the child was taken to the SRH hospital because she was weak. She was admitted. She is a premature child with several medical conditions. Kalpana Koonjoo-Shah then announced that a fact-finding committee has been set up to investigate the case. It is chaired by the permanent secretary of his ministry. The committee has already had a first meeting on Tuesday 25 October.
Once the committee files its report, actions or sanctions will follow.
Xavier-Luc Duval asked why a baby with so many complications was admitted to a center instead of staying in hospital. Kalpana Koonjoo-Shah replied that the child had been discharged from the hospital.
