The Ministry of Health records 345 active cases including 3 admitted to ENT hospital. The percentage of infected people in Mauritius has risen to 0.71% despite the application of the new protocol. 799,170 people are primo vaccinated and 720,784 people are double vaccinated. A number of schools had to close during the day on Thursday 26th and some will only resume at the beginning of the new school term. But the news from Covid is the peaceful demonstration, “Operation Alert The World”, by Ivan Bibi for transparency on the developments of the pandemic in Mauritius.
Happy Holidays from Covid
The schools already on holiday are Lorettos of Quatre Bornes and Saint Pierre, Hindu Girls in Curepipe, Phoenix SSS, MGSS in Nouvelle France, Universal College in Riviere du Rempart, Bambous SSS, Eden College Boys and Bel Air SSS. On the primary school side, we have Jean Le Brun Government School, Rajiv Gandhi Government School, Residence Valijee Government School, and Lady PK Boolell Government School in Montagne Blanche.

Beau Bassin women prisoners panic-stricken
144 inmates at the Beau Bassin Women’s Prison are left to fend for themselves. Covid positives are mixed with negatives who are not offered masks or hydro-alcohol gel by the administration. They are sharing not only the common spaces, but also the same cells, toilets and baths…
Rs 2000 fine for not wearing a mask
The Health Minister, Dr Kailesh Jagutpal, said that there will be no concession for those who do not wear or remove their masks, except to freshen up their throats! This follows the case of a fine of Rs 2000 served to a minor who would have removed her mask to eat a pair of “dholl puri”. He was participating in the Induction Ceremony of a first batch of nurses destined to operate as midwives in the future, at the Pamplemousses Polytechnic
The increase in active cases
We need to alert tourists to the real situation in the country…” was voicing out social activist Ivan Bibi outside the Parliament. His demonstration was peaceful and the citizens wanted to express their frustrations with the government for its silence and lack of transparency in the Covid situation. The main concern of this group is the increase in active cases despite the new protocol still discordant and especially the reopening without restrictions of the Mauritius Destination scheduled for October 1st.
