A police operation mounted by officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) in Cité la Cure, following information obtained concerning drug trafficking, led to the arrest of two young people from this locality on the evening of Sunday October 1. They are Pascal Hans Emmanuel L’Amour, 21 years old, and Daryl Jean-Michel Gino Abel, 18 years old. They were found in possession of two hundred and twenty-eight doses of heroin (18.61 grams), the sum of Rs 85,975 and twenty-eight doses of synthetic drugs in a cylindrical tube.
At around 8pm on Sunday evening, October 1, an Adsu team led by Sergeant Yan Sun Fong arrived at a cul-de-sac on Rue Sir Robert Scott. A search of the suspect revealed nine transparent plastic bags, seven of which contained twenty-six doses of heroin, another containing twenty-five doses of heroin, and another with twenty-one doses of the same drug. The sum of Rs 85,975 suspected to have come from the sale of the drugs was also seized.
A little later Daryl Abel was apprehended by another Adsu team led by sergeant Sonesing after being found in possession of twenty-eight doses of the synthetic drug which were in a cylindrical tube. The drug weighed 2.64 grams. The two suspects were placed in a cell at the Belle-Mare police station.
On Monday morning, October 2, they were brought before the Port-Louis court. They are facing a provisional charge of drug trafficking for the purpose of distribution. They were subsequently returned to the police cell.
