Saturday’s main race will be very open contest with Footy Goal, Prince Alf, Courtroom Magic and Paddingtons Luck holding good chance to win. Paddingtons Luck be very difficult to beat if he manages to hit the front without making much effort.
Trainer Samraj Mahadia won last week’s main race with Juniper Lane winning from start to finish. He can try the same tactics with Paddingtons Luck. This horse was imported on by ex-champion trainer Gilbert Rousset. He won three straight victories in 2019. He had no wins in 2020, then he won at the start of 2021 over 1450m before winning three other races.
Paddingtons Luck changed stables after the death of Gilbert Rousset last year and he raced only four times without winning. He showed that he his back to his best during his training sessions since the start of 2023. He is a very good ‘front runner’ who can make it all if he is allowed to race freely.
Footy Goal is still trying hard to grab his first win in Mauritius. He placed four times in his five outings last year. He seems to be in a much better shape this season. He must not follow too far behind on the initial part of the race if he wants to keep his chances.
Prince Alf ended the 2022 season on a high with two wins. He is a very good finisher who will be right there if there is a hot pace.
Courtroom Magic is the favorite of the bookies. He had a great 2022 season with three wins in his six outings. He is a very consistent runner who can race up front or follow close behind. He trained mainly at the JMLS Equestrian Center in Petit Gamin. He will be a danger.

Positive alcohol breath test
Jockey Fayd’herbe challenged the calibration of the Breathalyzer
Jockey Bernard Fayd’herbe was charged upfront, under rules 71.2.1 (A Jockey shall commit an offence if any Sample of blood, breath, hair or urine taken from him contains a banned substance) and 74.1 (if Alcohol – at or above a screening limit of 10 micrograms of ethanol per 100 millilitres of breath or 20 milligrams of ethanol per 100 millilitres of blood )by the Racing Stewards on Wednesday following a Breathalyzer test which turned to be positive last Saturday. Fayd’herbe was stood down for the race meeting.
Bernard Fayd’herbe, who is employed as Club Jockey by the People’s Turf PLC Ltd (PTP), challenged the validity of the test. The doctor of the PTP stated on Thursday that the certificate of calibration could not be found, and produced a police document, a statement was made on 30 March 2023 that the certificate of calibration is lost.
The Stewards have given him 7 days to produce the document. Inquiry adjourned to Thursday 6 April 2023 at 2 p.m.
