Arsenal regains the lead after Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest. Manchester United is now only three points behind Manchester City, 2nd.
Manchester United got a clear win against Leicester this Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford (3-0). Marcus Rashford scored twice before Jadon Sancho added the finishing touch. Erik ten Hag’s men won at Old Trafford against Leicester, and with the manner (3-0). The Red Devils have won 14 of their last 15 home games and have confirmed their status as outsiders in the race for the English title. Manchester United is third in the Premier League, three points behind Manchester City and five behind Arsenal. Spurs are now in 4th place in the standings after their 2-0 victory over London’s West Ham.
Manchester City missed many opportunities to make the break and conceded a draw at Nottingham Forest (1-1). Pep Guardiola’s players dominated but did not shine and now have 52 points, two less than their title rival (54).
Arsenal snatched a hard-fought victory against Aston Villa (2-4). Trailing twice after goals from Watkins (5th) and Coutinho (31st), the Gunners equalized each time thanks to Saka (16th) and Zinchenko (61st). Jorginho, with a powerful shot that hit the post and then the head of Martinez (90th+3), and Martinelli, who scored on a lightning counter-attack after the Argentine keeper’s exit (90th+8), allowed Arsenal to regain the lead.
Liverpool made the perfect move in the race for Europe on Saturday by winning at Newcastle, which remained on a 17-game unbeaten run in the Premier League (0-2). However, Newcastle was surprised by an opening from Alexander-Arnold to Darwin Núñez, without mercy against Nick Pope (0-1, 10th). The most solid backline in the league broke down again when Mo Salah sent a superb pass over the top of the defence, this time with Cody Gakpo finishing off the ball (0-2, 17′). The nightmare did not stop there for the Magpies: while trying to intervene outside his area against Salah, Pope touched the ball with his hand and went straight to the locker room (22nd). Liverpool is now in 8th position, 6 points behind its victim of the evening, 4th, with a game in hand.
Chelsea beaten by the red lantern!
On a bad series of three consecutive draws in the league, Chelsea was beaten by Southampton (0-1). Completely ineffective during more than 100 minutes with the serious injury of Azpilicueta, the Blues have cracked before the break on a superb free kick of Ward-Prowse (45th+1). The London club is still in 10th place, while the bottom club is only 3 points behind Bournemouth, 17th. Nothing is going well at Stamford Bridge where Graham Potter is (already) on the edge of his seat…
