A Torrential Rain Warning Is In Force In Mauritius

A torrential rain warning for Mauritius was issued at 19h30 this Thursday, 26 January 2023.

Active clouds associated with the instability zone continue to influence the weather over the island. Several stations around the island have recorded moderate to heavy rainfall as from this afternoon.

Stations with the highest rainfall in the last 12 hours up to 19h00 are as follows:

  • Quatres Bornes: 76 mm
  • Bambous Virieux: 83.7mm
  • Moka: 86 mm
  • Wooton: 102 mm
  • Vacoas: 80 mm

These moderate to heavy rains will persist during the night accompanied by thunderstorms.

Some rivers and watercourses will remain flooded. There will also be water accumulation and fog patches in several regions.

The public is advised to:

  1. Remain in safe places and avoid open areas, hikings, sea ventures and sheltering under trees during thunderstorms.
  2. Avoid places prone to water accumulation, river banks and other water courses.
  3. Be very cautious on the roads due to reduced visibility.
