British Newlywed Stung By Deadly Stonefish In Mauritius Still Seeking Cure

Must Read

A newlywed couple literally came out of hell in Mauritius after the wife got stung by a fish that is considered to be among the world’s most venomous. The victim claimed that she was not told to take any precautionary measures while stepping into the water.

The incident happed in September this year but there is still no clarity about the cure. According to the British national daily tabloid the Mirror, newly wedded couple Amy Thomson (27) and Callum Thomson (37) were loving their two-week honeymoon when the incident took place while they were on a snorkeling trip.

Amy recalled putting her sea shoes before diving in the water, but, she said that she was assured that no danger would happen even if she did not wear the shoes. However, the moment she dipped herself into the water without her shoes, a stone fish stung her. The fish is the world’s most venomous fish.

Amy’s remaining trip was nothing more than the pain she endured which she called “intense” which she never felt before in her life. She immediately visited the hotel doctor. Later, she was rushed to the hospital, where she stayed the whole night. Now two months have went by since the incident and Amy, from Lymington, Hampshire, is still finding a cure for her pain.

Talking about that painful moment, Amy said, “Through our holiday rep, we picked a speedboat trip where they take you to all the differing snorkel stops.

“We were towards the end of it and there was a BBQ on the beach. We were all on the beach and I was between courses and I was quite hot so I wanted to go in for a swim. I literally went to put my sea shoes on and the guy who was organising the trip said ‘no no no you don’t need those here.’ It was all sand so I listened to him and went in,” she added.

She also mentioned that she realized “straight away” that something had happened but she took it as a coral, she continued, “I came straight back to the shore, when I was at the shore that is when I honestly have never had that much pain in my life.”

According to the Mirror’s report, she said, “I looked at my foot and it had already doubled in size, it was all swollen, I looked underneath my foot and it had gone all blue and white. I sat down at the dinner table and I was like ‘no this isn’t right’.”

While describing her stay in hospital she said that while she was being put on a drip and being given morphine, she stayed in the hospital for the night where she received anti-venom for the sting. She said, “I had fluids, morphine and later that night I had an incision down my foot where they squeezed the venom out.”

But even after her arrival in UK, she felt the pain going worse. During their flight back home, Amy said, “On the flight home my foot blew up like a balloon and I am still suffering now.

She further added, “I have a hospital appointment on Thursday because my toe won’t stop weeping and I have been on antibiotics since I have been home.”

She also mentioned that she is desperate for a cure and said, “There is still no solution for it, I feel really down from it all because I am still suffering.
