The Mauritian Noémie Alphonse took the second place in the Cape Town Marathon this Sunday in the time of 1:57:50, the same time as the winner, the Brazilian Cristina de Souza.
At the end of a beautiful final sprint, launched at 200m from the finish, Cristina de Souza waited the last 50m to overtake Noémie Alphonse. The Mauritian took the second place in the women’s general classification and the same position in the 20 -39 years old category. In the combined men’s and women’s ranking she finished in eighth position out of thirteen participants. This is the second time that Noémie Alphonse has lined up at the start of a marathon.
Cédric Ravet took sixth place in the men’s classification and second place in his 20-39 age category in a time of 1:57:23. American Aaron Pike won the event in 1:40:16.
