The interim order was issued this afternoon by Judge Nicolas Ohsan-Bellepeau. The application for the injunction was directed against the Commissioner of Police, DCP Heman Jangi, Inspector Gunga and ASP Ashik Jagai. They have been restrained from questioning Akil Bissessur under warning till 10 am on Friday. He has also had his summons to the Central CID frozen following a complaint by ASP Ashik Jagai for inciting racial hatred.
This Friday at 10 am, all parties concerned, namely the police, the DPP’s office, and Akil Bissessur have an appointment before the judge in chambers. The police must explain why the interim order should not become interlocutory and why Akil Bissessur should be summoned.
It may be recalled that Akil Bissessur is demanding that the opinion of the DPP be obtained before he is questioned following a complaint by ASP Jagai.
The injunction application was drafted by solicitor Ayesha Jeewa. Akil Bissessur is also represented by Sanjeev Teeluckdharry and Antoine Domingue.
