New Flyover At Palmerstone And Reconstructed Sivananda Avenue To The Tune Of Rs 397 Million Inaugurated

The reconstructed Sivananda Avenue and the new flyover at Palmerstone, funded to the tune of around Rs 397 million, were inaugurated, on Tuesday, by the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, in Vacoas. Motorists will be able to access the roads as from this afternoon.

The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Leela Devi Dookun Luchoomun; the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo; the Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram; and other personalities were present at the launching ceremony.

New Flyover At Palmerstone And Reconstructed Sivananda Avenue Inaugurated

In a statement, Prime Minister Jugnauth indicated that with the increasing rise in traffic, the existing road configuration from Vacoas up to Palmerstone junction and Jumbo roundabout are subjected to traffic congestion and with the implementation of the Metro Express project, only one lane was available for traffic thus leading to additional congestion.

According to him, the present major road development project will help in alleviating the traffic congestion from Vacoas up to Palmerstone junction and Jumbo roundabout. The aim is to modernise the transport system as well as ensure a smooth flow of traffic which will be beneficial for motorists, he underlined. It will also improve the road network alongside the Metro Express Project, he said.

The Prime Minister, in addition, spoke of the vision of Government to extend the Metro Express network across the island. He indicated that the Government of India is providing a new line of credit of USD 300 million and a grant of USD 25 million for the extension of the Metro Express to Côte d’Or.

As regards the welfare of consumers, Prime Minister Jugnauth underlined that Government is exploring all possibilities to provide them with essential commodities now when there is a surge of prices of commodities globally.
