Rafael Nadal’s quest for a Calendar Slam has come to an unfortunate end after he announced his withdrawal from Wimbledon on Thursday evening.
Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from Wimbledon ahead of Friday’s semifinal due to an abdominal tear, he announced at a press conference Thursday.
Nadal, who fought through the injury during his quarterfinal match against Taylor Fritz on Wednesday, was set to face Australian Nick Kyrgios in his third consecutive Grand Slam semifinal.
The No. 2 seeded Spaniard was in search of a record-extending 23rd career Grand Slam singles title and his third career Wimbledon championship.
Kyrgios will advance to his first-ever Grand Slam final via walkover and take on either No. 1 Novak Djokovic or No. 9 Cameron Norrie who face off on Friday.
