Mrs Marie Suzanne Tailly Celebrated Her 100th Birthday In Calodyne On Wednesday, May 18

Marie Suzanne Tailly, a native of Port-Louis, joined the elite group of centenarians in the country on Wednesday, May 18. In that context, an official ceremony was organised by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity to honour the new centenarian. On this occasion, Mrs Tailly received, from the authorities, a cheque amounting to Rs 21,836; another one to the tune of Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund; a bouquet; a centenarian medal; one certificate; and a set of cookware.

The Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck, the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Dr Anjiv Ramdhany, and other personalities as well as the close relatives of the centenarian, were present at the celebrations.

. On this special occasion, the Ministry of Social Security organized a small party in her honor at Calodyne. Officials from the Ministry of Social Security as well as family members of the new centenarian were invited to the event.

Marie Suzanne Tailly was born on May 18, 1922 at the civil hospital of Port Louis. Her father was a carpenter and her mother worked as a seamstress. Her mother gave birth to six children including two sons and four daughters. Suzanne studied up to Standard 3 but could not complete her studies due to family constraints. When she was younger, she followed in her mother’s footsteps by working as a seamstress.

The centenarian lived in common law with Georges Tailly before getting married in 1971. The couple had 12 children. She is a very happy grandmother, with 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Suzanne Tailly suffers from high blood pressure and walks with great difficulty, with the help of a cane. For this reason, she was the victim of a car accident after the death of her husband.

Very charismatic, this resident of Port Louis, attributes her longevity to her hard work and her faith in God.
