Nandini Singla, High Commissioner for India, met with Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage Avinash Teeluck on Monday (May 31st) to discuss the “Indentured Labor Route Project”.
In 2014, UNESCO supported the Mauritius initiative to set up this project with a secretariat based in Mauritius. The aim of the project is to bring together all countries that experienced the migration of engagement and other forms of contract labor in the 19th and mid-20th centuries. It strives to contribute to nation-building efforts and to a better understanding among the peoples and societies of the Diaspora under contract as well as within the countries themselves.
The minister also raised the possibility of reviewing certain provisions of the cultural exchange program between India and Mauritius, to adapt its scope to new technologies.
