Following the detection of cases in the community at La Valette, the High-Level Committee on COVID-19 has taken the decision to declare the Housing Estate from La Valette to Bambous as a Red Zone area. The decision took effect as from 06 00hrs this morning.
2 611 PCR tests were conducted by the Ministry of Health and Wellness in the evening and the results are as follows:
– Three cases were detected in COVID-19 Testing Centres. The persons reside at Pointe aux Sables, l’Amitié and Lallmatie. Two of these cases are still under investigation.
– Seven patients were identified positive in ongoing Contact Tracing exercises. They are residents of Highlands (2), Plaine des Papayes (1), La Valette (1), D’Epinay (2) and St Julien (1).
– Two cases were detected during a screening exercise in La Valette, Bambous.
– One case was detected on Day 7 in quarantine.
One patient who was admitted to a treatment centre and tested positive to COVID-19 passed away in the evening. The main cause of death was attributed to a medical condition other than COVID-19.
609 patients considered cured have returned home.

The number of active cases at the local level stands at 183.
