Sharjah International Open Para Athletics Meeting (14-16 March): Mauritius Finishes Third In The Medal Table

Ten gold medals, seven silver and one bronze. Mauritius takes the second place in the medal table at the Sharjah International Open Para Athletics Meeting in Dubai. Algeria with eleven gold medals takes the first place.

On the third and final day, which took place on Wednesday 16 March, the Mauritians won six gold medals and set four new national records.

In the shot put Jean-François Sénèque (F20) won the gold medal with a record throw of 9m86.

Rosario Mariane and her guide Bradley Oviv won gold in the 200m T12 in 27.62 secs.

Denovan Rabaye’s long jump of 6.57m was beyond the reach of his opponents. In this discipline, Anaïs Angeline T37 won the gold medal with a jump of 4m34.

Noémie Alphonse in the 5000m chair T54 won the gold medal in a record time of 12:46:90. The latter finished on the second step of the podium in the 400m wheelchair race in 57.66 seconds.

The 400m T20 was marked by the clear domination of the Mauritians who won gold and broke the national records in the men’s and women’s events with Ashley Telvave in 1:08:00 and Yovanni Philippe in 50.69 secs respectively.

Mauritius was ahead of major nations such as Germany and Great Britain in the medals table at this competition. A very encouraging sign ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
