Covid 19 : The Country Officially Records 55 Deaths Directly Linked To The Virus This Week

The weekly conference of the National Communications Committee could not take place this Friday because the Ministry of Health and its Minister are being singled out by the opposition and the public and because it is the last parliamentary session of 2021. The Ministry of Health has sent out a statement detailing the health situation in relation to Covid 19.

Officially 55 deaths

The country has officially recorded 55 deaths directly related to the virus. 17 patients were under 60 years of age, 32 were unvaccinated, and only 11 had no comorbidities, that is 44 cases of comorbidities. The ENT hospital recorded 17 admissions during the week, with 5 patients on ventilators, 9 on oxygen and 3 under observation. In the 5 regional hospitals combined, 235 patients were admitted.

185 people are currently in quarantine, 47 are positive passengers and 138 are from countries listed as “high risk countries“. In terms of positive cases for the week, the Ministry has recorded 422 new positive cases of Covid-19 detected through the various PCR tests, 47 of which are imported cases.

Vaccination campaign growing

Vaccination is on course with 76.3% of the population primo vaccinated, i.e. 935,772, 74%, i.e. 908,111 have received two doses and 163,742 have received their third doses, i.e. 128,509 inoculated with Johnson & Johnson, 8,703 with Sinopharm, 2,825 with Astra Zeneca and 23,705 with Pfizer. For the adolescents, 34,911 havereceived their first doses and 31,754 both doses. In Rodrigues, 63.2% of the population has received their first dose, 60% both doses and 1,283 the third dose.

Namely, vaccination for the adolescent age group has been extended to 12 – 17 years as from this Friday. Mauritius has received a 3rd shipment from Pfizer, namely of 203,508 doses from the United States via the COVAX facility and the African Union, which has arrived in the country on Thursday 16 December. The vaccination is being done in alphabetical order at 9 centres in the country, namely Swami Vivekananda International Convention Center in Pailles, Anjalay Stadium in Pamplemousses, Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Moka, Rivière-des-Anguilles Village Hall, Dr James Burty David Gymnasium in Curepipe, Germain Comarmmond Stadium in Bambous, Plaza in Rose-Hill and Sir Lekraz Teelock College in Flacq

The Pfizer is also given out to people over 70 years as a booster dose in the vaccine mix with Covaxin, Covishield, Sinopharm and Johnson and Johnson.
