Must Read

After the MMM Leader, Paul Bérenger, it was the turn of the Labor Party MP, Shakeel Mohamed to be suspended on Friday for the next two days and for four parliamentary sessions unless they apologize to the Speaker of the National Assembly. The tussle between MP Shakeel Mohamed and the Speaker led to a walk out by Opposition members as Health Minister Kailesh Jagutpal came forward with an urgent statement regarding the procedures surrounding the purchase of Molnupiravir pills to fight Covid-19. There were heated exchanges between the Speaker of the National Assembly, Sooroojdev Phokeer and MP Shakeel Mohamed. As he was leaving the chamber, Shakeel Mohamed said to the Speaker:”You are a goal keeper but you are a very bad one. You should be ashamed of yourself”.

Addressing the parliamentarians after the walk out, the Speaker said that since yesterday morning, members of the Opposition are trying to spoil the proceedings of the house. He was also to point out that the public is also listening to his statement. It is time for the Opposition members to know how to behave in Parliament.

Friday night’s session of Parliament was devoted to the debates surrounding ‘The Virtual Asset and Initial Token Offering Services Bill’. The Parliament was adjourned until next Friday, December 17.
