Covid Victims : Two Young Women Succumb

Must Read

A 20-year-old victim and a 40-year-old victim are two young women who lost their lives because of Covid 19. One recently went through child birth and was admitted in ICU and the other one was asthmatic and diabetic but was apparently refused admission at the hospital. In both cases, medical negligence is decried on social networks.

A young mother of 20 dies this morning

Covid 19 claims another victim. It is a sad fate for Suhaylah Deensah Naudeer, who is a very young mother of 20 years, dies a week after giving birth to her son. She was tested positive late during her pregnancy and was admitted to Jeetoo Hospital in Port Louis for 10 days. Although her delivery went well, the baby is doing well and has already been discharged from the hospital, Suhaylah’s condition deteriorated considerably and was considered to be serious. She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the same hospital where she passed away in the early hours of Thursday 18th November. The tragedy is that she was not able to see her son, who was kept away from her to prevent him from being contaminated with Covid 19. The Naudeer family is waiting for the medical certificate to know if Suhayla’s death is directly attributed to Covid 19. Her funeral will take place later today. The question by internet users on social networks is whether all the necessary means have been implemented to save this young mother of 20 years.

Asthmatic and diabetic, she was refused to admission

This Wednesday 17th November, the country also recorded the death of Roomila Mooken, 40 years-old and resident of Fond du Sac, who died on Wednesday 17th November at her home where she was in self-isolation. She was asthmatic, diabetic and unvaccinated. Aware of these comorbidities and concerned about her deterioration, she went to the SSRN hospital for treatment and for a possible admission. But she was not given access to this type of care due to lack of available bed and was asked to self-isolate.  Social Media users and even health professionals do not understand why she was not admitted, given that she was asthmatic and diabetic. They especially do not understand the reason of lack of available space while the government and the Ministry of Health deny any hypothesis about saturation in hospitals. It is even doubtful whether a proper assessment has been made of her and whether the right guidelines would have been given to her for her self-isolation

The country counted on Wednesday 17th November 132 asymptomatic cases and 7 new admissions to the New ENT Hospital. According to official figures, from Sunday to date, 16 people have died at the ENT Hospital. According to a general count of all hospitals, during these 48 hours, there have been 45 positive cases from Covid 19.
