He was in the limelight on Sunday 14th August in the Constituency No 14 Savanne-Rivière Noire, where elected 9 times, he is held as a King. The Minister of Transport and Light Rail, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and International Trade, celebrated his 40 years in politics. The Leader of the Muvman Patriot Morisien showed his loyalty and unwavering support for the Government and Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth.
If the MSM, in congress in its constituencies, is celebrating its 40 years of existence, Alan Ganoo is celebrating his 40 years in politics, where he has been on several sides wearing different hats including Lawyer, Minister, Former Speaker of Parliament and even, Leader of the Opposition. “I am not in politics to get rich or to be in power. I was not attached to the Minister’s chair,” he said of his background. At Keats College, Chemin-Grenier on Sunday 14th August, before an enthusiastic crowd of over 4000 supporters, his message was clear: “Stay united and have faith in this government. I am happy to be in an MSM government, which is committed to working for the country,” saying at the same time, “Pravind Jugnauth’s MSM has stood by you in the midst of many crises.”
The Minister praised the government for not putting the population second in these times of crisis, including Covid 19, the war in Ukraine, inflation, cyclones… “In 40 years, I have never seen such a Social Budget. Development continues, despite many obstacles. The many challenges are beyond our control,” he said.
Alan Ganoo was very optimistic about the future, saying “the country will grow by 6% and the economy will recover.” However, he apologized to his constituents, “for being less present these days in the districts of Savanne-Riviere Noire. I have two very difficult ministries to manage. But I am doing my best to alleviate your problems,” and he reassured them that the country will continue to develop. “We have two and a half years left. A lot will be achieved if you stay by our side,” while committing more to Constituency No. 14 where he is treated like a King. Earlier in his speech, he confessed, “God has allowed me such a long journey in politics. I was only 27 or 28 years old when I became interested in Constituency No. 14 and since then, it has been a real love story with the people”.
Present at the celebration were the Health Minister, Dr. Kailesh Jagutpal, MP Sandra Mayotte and Education Minister, Leela Devi Dookun Luchoomun, who in her address said, “Alan Ganoo, his spirituality is like his drive… He never forgets his constituents.”
This Sunday marked a big event for the MPM and its Leader, Alan Ganoo. The Minister plans to use the parliamentary recess to reach out to other constituencies with conventions symbolizing his 40 years in politics but also, the consolidation of the government alliance. Events in Constituencies No 17 and No 18 have already been announced.
Correction published by the MPM
In a statement issued by the MPM Secretariat, the MPM denied any incident that may have been reported at the political celebration at Keats College in Chemin Grenier. “I would like to deny all rumours concerning an alleged incident that occurred after the rally. On the contrary, my supporters dispersed in an orderly and disciplined manner after the rally,” said the Minister.
Indeed, the local police had to intervene in a fight in the crowd at Chemin Grenier late on Sunday afternoon. An 18-year-old local man had to be restrained. He was armed with a knife in his hand and was attempting to attack another individual. The young man was arrested and taken into custody. Police sources said that the fight was not directly related to the political rally.
