Three new victims have been added to the list of road accidents since January 1st of this year, on Sunday morning March 31st. In the early hours of the morning, two young women lost their lives when the car they were travelling in collided head-on with a metal electricity pylon in Pointe aux Sables, near the entrance to the Betonix company, before colliding with a wooden Mauritius Telecom pylon. The impact was so violent that the wooden pylon shattered and the other half was thrown across the road. Arabelle Marie Ketty Perrine, 25, and Marie Estelle Natacha Paul, 19, were killed instantly. Arabelle Perrine’s one-year-old baby was injured. Her companion Jordan Wendy Paltoo, 32, who was driving the car, was seriously injured. Pascal D’Eau, 23, Estelle Paul’s companion, was also injured. They all live in the Pointe aux Sables area. On the evening of the same day, Louis Leonel Winslay Jordan Pierrot, 29, who had been seriously injured the previous day in an accident on the Pointe aux Sables coastal road, succumbed to his injuries in a ward of the intensive care unit of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis. He was riding a motorcycle when he was hit by a car driven by a police officer.
The terrible accident occurred shortly before 3.30 a.m. on Sunday March 31. The car was heading towards rue La Concorde. According to Pascal D’Eau, who was released from hospital on Monday April 1. They were on their way back from the Pointe aux Sables public beach, where they were having a little party. At some point, the driver lost control of his vehicle before the accident occurred. After impact, the car, a black Hyundai, rolled several times. One of the women was thrown forward with her head close to the steering wheel.
The autopsy performed on the bodies of the two women at the Dr Jeetoo Hospital morgue by Dr Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed the cause of death to multiple injuries.
Shortly after 2.30 a.m. on Saturday March 30, another accident occurred in the same division of the La Tour Koenig police station, Pointe aux Sables. On the Route Côtière in Pointe aux Sables, near Hero Bakery, a red Nissan driven by a 28-year-old policeman from Le Hochet Terre Rouge collided with a black Suzuki motorcycle. The latter was driven by Jordan Pierrot. The two vehicles were travelling in opposite directions. The motorcycle was zigzagging on this road,” explained the policeman, “and suddenly left its lane to collide head-on with the car. The car was heading towards Pointe aux Sables.
When the police arrived from La Tour Koenig, the victim was unconscious and bleeding profusely. An ambulance from the Service d’Aide Médicale d’Urgence took charge of the victim. After treatment, Jordan Pierrot was admitted to the intensive care unit under artificial respiration. He succumbed to his injuries at 10.50pm on Sunday evening, March 31. The officer underwent a breathalyzer test, which proved negative.
