Rudolf Derek Jean Jacques, known as Gro Derek, was sentenced to 32 years in prison and a fine of Rs 500 000. Bruno Wesley Casimir, on the other hand, was sentenced to 30 years in prison and a fine of Rs 300,000. The verdict was pronounced by Judge Luchmyparsad Aujayeb on Tuesday in the Assizes Court. Both had been found guilty last week, with only the sentencing remained. The time that these two defendants spent in custody will be deducted from their sentences. Judge Aujayeb justified this heavy sentence by the fact that the two men were part of a very efficient drug trafficking network. For him, the Court cannot hide the fact that they knew full well the consequences of their actions. Gro Derek was represented by Me Deepak Rutnah while Me Alvin Juwaheer represented Bruno Wesley Casimir. The prosecution was represented by Roshan Varma Santokhee, Principal State Counsel, and Yakrajsingh Ramsohok, State Counsel.
