Nuvin Kumar Rughoober, 26, also known as Nilesh, succumbed to his injuries in the early evening of Monday August 14 in the intensive care unit of the Dr Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq. The Sebastopol resident had been seriously injured in a road accident in L’Etoile, Sebastopol on the evening of Sunday August 13. He was travelling in a car when the driver lost control and collided head-on with a tree trunk. He and a 17-year-old teenager were injured.
It was around 9:45pm on Sunday evening, August 13, when police officers from the Montagne Blanche police station were called to Route Royale de L’Etoile, Sébastopol. A black Mazda with three occupants crashed into a tree trunk. The impact was so violent that the vehicle was seriously damaged.
The car was driven by a young man aged 20. He was accompanied by a 17-year-old teenager and a 26-year-old man. They all live in Sebastopol. Injured, they were taken to Flacq hospital in a police vehicle and by volunteers. At the time of the accident, the road was wet and slippery.
The driver was given a breathalyzer test, which turned out to be negative. During questioning, he explained that he had lost control of his vehicle and that it had left the road, colliding head-on with a tree trunk. After receiving treatment, Nuvin Kumar Rughoober was admitted to a ward in the intensive care unit. He passed away at around 6:30 p.m. on Monday August 14. An autopsy performed on his body at the morgue of the Dr A.G.Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis on Tuesday August 15 by Dr Ananda Sunnassee, Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to a fractured skull.
The same day, the young driver of the Mazda involved in the accident was summoned for further questioning at Montagne Blanche police station. Following this, he was placed in a cell at the Moka detention center on a provisional charge of manslaughter. On the morning of Tuesday August 15, he was brought before the Flacq court on a provisional charge.
Nuvin Kumar Rughoober’s funeral took place on Tuesday August 15 at 2pm. He was subsequently cremated in Sebastopol.
