19-Year-Old Arrested For Drug Trafficking In Grand Gaube

Adrien Savrimootoo Seevathian will be celebrating his 20th birthday on December 8 behind bars at the Beau-Bassin central prison. The resident of Bati, Grand Gaube was apprehended after being found in possession of 5.12 grams of heroin and a plastic container containing 13 doses of heroin. A sum of Rs 30,800, suspected to be from the sale of the drug, was also seized.

It was at around 8.55am on Monday 21 November that a raid by police officers from the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) in Trou aux Biches, led by Sergeant Ramtohul, was carried out at the home of this young man. These officers had information that he was involved in drug trafficking, and after days of surveillance, a raid was conducted at his home.

This information turned out to be true. These ADSU policemen found a clear plastic with 5.12 grams of heroin and a plastic container in which there were 13 doses of the same drug, i.e. 0.68 grams. A sum of Rs 30,800 in different denominations was also seized. This money is suspected to be from the sale of the drug.

Adrien Seevathian was subsequently taken to the ADSU office in Grand Bay for questioning. During the day, he was presented before the Rivière du Rempart court where he was charged with a provisional charge of drug trafficking. The suspect was kept in custody.

Adrien Seevathian has had previous encounters with the law. On July 5, 2022, he was ordered to pay bail of Rs 1000 and to be on good behaviour for a period of one year by the Riviere du Rempart Divisional Court in a theft case. He had robbed a woman of a chain worth Rs 40,000 on January 30, 2022.
