Eid will probably be celebrated tomorrow – depending on the visibility of the moon. At the home of pastry chef Zulfekar Ali, this celebration is a mix of tradition and sharing.
After observing Ramadan for a month, Muslims are getting ready to celebrate Eid.
For Zulfekar Ali – a pastry chef who needs no introduction, this celebration is prepared in advance: “Eid marks a new year for Muslims. As usual, there is a lot of preparation beforehand. For example, we have already bought new clothes to welcome this festival under the best auspices,” explains this inhabitant of Bel-Air Rivière Sèche.
On the other hand, Zulfezar and his wife will deviate from a tradition this year: “As in other Muslim families, the tradition requires that we find a good briyani on the table on the day of the Eid. But in our house, at least for this year, we have opted for a beef kalia with a good cucumber salad.”
As for dessert, there is no question of giving up the place of sewai to macaroons and other Eid neapolitans: “In my pastry shop we prepare macaroons and neapolitans for orders. But, at home, those who come to visit us will get sewai or vermicelli prepared by me.”
Eid is also about sharing. The Ali family has prepared food packs for Muslim families in need: “I personally offer food packs to families in need so that they have something to celebrate Eid. It’s a responsibility we take on annually.”
