Xavier Luc Duval : The Future Of 85 Private Colleges At Stake

Must Read

The future of some 56,000 students and hundreds of educators in the private schooling system is at stake with the new regulations of the Private Secondary Education Authority’s (PSEA) about the “grant” issue, which concerns about 85 colleges.

This is the point raised by the Leader of the Opposition, Xavier-Luc Duval during a press conference after his Private Notice Question (PNQ) addressed to the Minister of Education, Leela Devi Dookun Luchoomun, this morning in the National Assembly.

With the new financing system of the PSEA in place, several private secondary schools are threatened, according to Xavier-Luc Duval.

During his press conference, the Opposition Leader raised a point that instead of stigmatizing all the private schools and treating them for having unethical behaviour, unjustified expenses and untruth statements, the Minister should have come with a system to control secondary schools that do not function properly instead of putting all colleges in the same basket.

A circular from the PSEA, dated 15 October 2021, stipulates that private colleges must now have the green light from the organization before carrying out projects without any consultation with the private schools since October 2020.
