The motion to freeze the SIM card re-registration exercise was called before the Supreme Court on Monday. After consulting with all the legal representatives, Mr. Pazhany Rangasamy, an attorney, and Mr. Sanjeev Teeluckdharry, his lawyer, appeared before the Supreme Court this morning to seek a stay on the SIM card re-registration exercise, which will continue until 30 April.<\/p>\n
“All the necessary documents have been filed, and we are awaiting the Court’s verdict, which is expected before 30 April<\/em>,” stated Attorney-at-Law, Me. Pazhany Rangasamy. He also thanked Dr. Navin Ramgoolam for his insightful advice.<\/p>\n The lawyer, Mr. Sajeev Teeluckdharry, appearing for him, said: “The case is under legal review and the pleadings have been filed. We’re waiting for the Court’s ruling<\/em>.”<\/p>\n Chief Justice Rehana Mungly-Gulbul and Justice Karuna Devi Gunesh-Balaghee reserved their judgment. The lawyers have already submitted their oral arguments in front of the judges.<\/p>\n The Supreme Court is expected to rule on a petition filed by the attorney Pazhany Rangasamy seeking to freeze the re-registration of SIM cards.<\/p>\n The case was called before Chief Justice, Rehana Mungly Gulbul, and Justice Karuna Gunness-Balaghee on Monday morning, 25 March.<\/p>\n The various parties have submitted their pleadings in writing and the judges will consider the case before ruling.<\/p>\n Pazhany Rangasamy had filed a constitutional lawsuit with the Supreme Court on 06 February.
