Vietnamese authorities last week confiscated more than 600 kilograms of ivory smuggled from Africa, the government said on Monday.<\/p>\n
Though the ivory trade is illegal in Vietnam, wildlife trafficking is still extensive. Among other items smuggled into the country are, pangolin scales, rhino horns and tiger carcasses.<\/p>\n
On Monday, customs authorities in the northern port city of Haiphong discovered about 130 kilograms of ivory in a container with cow horns from Africa, the government said.<\/p>\n
According to the government, at Lach Huyen Port in the city on Thursday last week the authorities found nearly 500 kilograms of ivory.<\/p>\n
It is considered the largest seizure of ivory in Vietnam in over four years. In October 2018, the authorities seized over eight tonnes of ivory and pangolin scales in one of the country’s most massive wildlife trafficking cases for years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
