The Diamond Trophy (2200m \u2013 G2), which will be run this Sunday at the Champ-de-mars racecourse, will be the last big test before the Maiden Cup (2400m \u2013 G1) scheduled on October 2. A match between Patrol Officer and Alshibaa in the final straight is expected.<\/p>\n
Horse of the year in 2020, Patrol Officer has not won since November 2020. His best performance of 2021 was a second place behind Alshibaa in the Golden Trophy (now renamed Diamond Trophy). He ran twice in 2022 bagging a good second place after finishing strongly over 1850m last time. Patrol Officer is back to his best and he will be a hard nut to crack.<\/p>\n
Alshibaa is the classy horse of the lot. He won the Maiden Cup twice in 2020 and 2021. He was crown horse of the year in 2021 after winning three of his four races. He won the Golden Trophy easily last year. He ran only once in 2022 and finished sixth behind Frosted Gold in the Gold Cup (1600m \u2013 G1). He lost one shoe during the race and that may have affected his performance. Alshibaa showed good progress during the training sessions and he his in a better shape. He will be the horse to beat despite carrying the top-weight.<\/p>\n
The Dazzler was not disgraced last time finishing third behind Twist Of Fate over 1850m. He is gradually coming back to his best. He ran third in that race in 2021 and he will be right there.<\/p>\n
Absolutist and Consul Of War are at their best. But they are both racing against better horses, and they are running over such a long trip for the first time. They can finish in the money.<\/p>\n
