World Cup: Qatar Beaten By Ecuador In Opening Match

Must Read

Ecuador did not tremble. Against Qatar, host country, in the opening match of this 22nd World Cup, it won 0-2 in the wake of a double of its captain Enner Valencie, Sunday in group A.

The Fenerbhace striker scored the first goal of this 22nd edition of the World Cup, converting a penalty conceded by Al Sheeb (0-1, 16th). Valencia doubled ‘La Tri’s lead with a superb header (0-2, 31st).

The second half saw the troops of Argentine Gustavo Alfaro calmly manage the match. Ecuador, after missing the 2018 World Cup in Russia, has launched its competition well. For their part, Qatar, who failed to save the honor on a volley from Mohammed Muntari (86th), will have to show a much better face if they want to even glean a point.

Before the defeat of Qatar against Ecuador (0-2) on Sunday in the opening match of the 2022 World Cup, the host country had never lost in the first match of a World Cup! From Uruguay 1930 to Russia 2018 through France 1998, there are 16 wins and 6 draws for local teams in 22 editions.
