Vivek Pursun’s Private Prosecution Against Maneesh Gobin Frozen

The motion of the Attorney General Maneesh Gobin was called before the Chief Justice, Rehana Mungly-Gulbul, on Monday, May 15. Senior Counsel Ravind Chetty, who is representing Maneesh Gobin, sought and obtained a freeze on the Private Prosecution filed against the AG in the Curepipe court. This is pending a decision by the Supreme Court on Maneesh Gobin’s motion

Hence the Minister of Agri-Food, Maneesh Gobin, who is also the Attorney General, has obtained the freezing of the private prosecution in the Supreme Court. The social worker, Vivek Pursun, who filed the private prosecution in the Curepipe court, is contesting the Attorney General’s move through his lawyers, Sanjeev Teeluckdharry and Akil Bissesur. It calls this approach “misconceived”. The case will be called again before the Chief Justice, Rehana Mungly-Gulbul, on May 29.

Vivek Pursun was represented by Mr Sanjeev Teeluckdharry. He objected to the AG’s motion. The matter will be called on 29 May 2023. Maneesh Gobin is seeking an order to quash the Private Prosecution, filed against him, as well as his summons to the Curepipe court.
