A new twist in the Vimen Sapabati case. The former Muay Thai trainer was released on two sureties of Rs 400,000 each and an IOU for Rs 6 million. As the DPP’s office decided not to appeal against the release on bail, all that remained for Vimen Sabapati to do was to provide the two sureties to regain his freedom. However, this afternoon in the Port-Louis court, the case relating to another case, that of conspiracy, was raised. It concerns the mobile phone found outside Vimen Sabapati’s cell at Alcatraz. The DPP’s office has asked for time to decide on Vimen Sapabati’s bail application in this case. Neelkanth Dulloo, the lawyer representing the former national Muay Thai coach, has asked for the application to be made as soon as possible. The case has been set for Thursday 5 October. As a result, Vimen Sapabati remains in custody until this Thursday.
It should also be noted that the Police Commissioner has lodged an application with the Supreme Court, through solicitor Shamila Sonah-Ori, to challenge the release on bail of Vimen Sapabati by the Port-Louis court. This is the fifth challenge to his release on bail initiated by the Commissioner of Police.
