The first phase of the Victoria Urban Terminal will be opened to the public in a few days. Various commercial brands will operate within the building. There will also be a food court. This first phase of the Victoria Urban Terminal (VUT), built by General Construction Co Ltd (GCC), will surely be inaugurated by the Prime Minister.

The horizontal building, which combines modernity and age, will welcome its first visitors from November 17. The opening, which coincides with the end of the year period, will surely be beneficial to traders and will boost sales after months of difficulty due to the confinement.

However, the old National Transport Authority carved stone building with a more modern look after two years of renovation is already standing out. “Some parts of the facade were blackened by the flames and in other places, the cut stones had to be dismantled or removed and replaced with other stones. The groundbreaking ceremony for the Victoria Urban Terminal in Port Louis had taken place on Friday, November 29, 2019. This first-of-its-kind multimodal complex is worth some Rs 2 billion. In 2019, Robin Hardin, CEO said, “We are delighted to be part of this project, which is a major component of the regeneration of the capital’s urban landscape with the commissioning of the Metro Express. It is also the first private-public partnership of its kind in Mauritius.
