Must Read

Three prisoners at the Grande-Rivière-Nord-Ouest (GRNO) prison were attacked during a fight in yard B by four other prisoners who broke through a separation wall in yard C. The alarm was immediately sounded after a Lead Prison Officer (LPO) in the control room saw the violent scene on surveillance camera footage. Two of the injured prisoners from yard B were taken to the prison infirmary for treatment.

The incidents took place at around 2 p.m. on Monday May 29. The LPO in the control room immediately raised the alarm. Prison guards on site quickly took control of the situation. It was on the morning of Tuesday May 30 that he gave his statement to the police station at La Tour Koenig, Pointe aux Sables, recounting the incident.

He said he saw four prisoners from yard C, namely a 23-year-old from Cité La Cure, a 33-year-old from Olivia, a 24-year-old from Roche-Bois and an 18-year-old from Quartier-Militaire, cross the wall into yard B. They went towards three inmates and started beating them. The three victims are a 33-year-old resident of Baie du Tombeau, a 28-year-old from Sainte-Croix and a 25-year-old from the village of Riambel. The latter and the Sainte-Croix resident who were injured were taken to the prison infirmary for treatment.

The LPO has told police investigators that it will submit a copy of the video recording of the fight.
