Indeed, three members drowned while the other three were rescued by the police helicopter crew. The three survivors are Girish Mudun, a 27-year-old doctor, Avish Mudun and Mevin Guddah, 29.

The three relatives who drowned are the brothers, Deevesh Mudun, a 27-year-old civil servant, also known as Keshav and Thanesh Mudun, known as Rishab, a 21-year-old student and Boodev Panchye, 42. However, the body of this Plaine-Magnien resident, who was reported missing, was only found this Monday morning of February 28 floating in the water at Le Souffleur.

It is following a request from the Police Information and Operation Room (PIOR), concerning six people in difficulty in the lagoon of Savinia beach around 5:05 pm that the assistance of the divers of the National Coast Guard (NCG) was requested. Upon their arrival, police officers from the L’Escalier police station were already on site.  The police helicopter was already flying over the area five minutes later.

Girish Mudun and Avish Mudun managed to swim to shore and the police helicopter managed to recover Mevin Guddah. The bodies of Deevesh and Thanesh Mudun, who were floating in the water, were also recovered by the police helicopter crew.

Two others were recovered from the water before being taken to the beach. The NCG men provided first aid before an ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service (SAMU) arrived at the scene.  The doctor on board unfortunately had to declare the death of Deevesh Mudun and Thanesh Mudun.
