Traffic Arrangements For Pere Laval Pilgrimage

The Commissioner of Police, Mr A.K. DIP, CSK, PMSM has issued the following communique regarding traffic arrangement on Father Laval Pilgrimage”. By virtue of authority conferred upon to the police Commissioner under Section 181 of the Road traffic Act, the following traffic arrangements as hereunder will be made on Thursday 08 and Friday 09 September 2022 in Metropolitan (North) Division on “Father Laval Pilgrimage”.

CLOSED STREET

The following Streets will be closed to vehicular traffic and declared as pedestrian zone except in the event of emergency and as and when required by police :-

(a)     On Thursday 08.09.2022 as from 1200 hours to 0600 hours on Friday 09.09.2022.

Allee Pere Laval from its junction with Pamplemousses Road up to Pere Laval Church, Ste Croix all lateral streets.

(b)     On Thursday 08.09.2022 as from 1600 to 0200 hours on Friday 09.09.2022 or as and when required by Police.

(i)      Pamplemousses Road from its junction with Riche Terre Branch Road up to that with Ducray Street, Ste Croix;

(ii)     Nicolay Road, Ste Croix and lateral roads from Abercrombie Round About up to its junction with Military Road near Ex British American Tobacco (BAT);

(iii)     Ste Marie Road, Ste Croix and lateral roads from its junction with Le Cornu street up to Pieton Pere Laval Street;

(iv)    Pieton Pere Laval and lateral roads from its junction from Pamplemousses Road, Ste Croix up to Pere Laval Church; and,

(v)     Ducray Street, Ste Croix and lateral roads from its junction from Pamplemousses Road, Ste Croix up to Nicolay Road.

ONE WAY STREET

(c)     On Thursday 08.09.2022 as From 1600 Hours to 0200 Hours on Friday 09.09.2022 except for Buses on Special Trip – Essential Services – Police Only.

(i)      Cocoterie Road, Ste Croix from Cocoterie Round About up to junction with Nicolay Road and Ducray Street, Ste Croix;

(ii)     Ducray Street from its junction with Nicolay Road to that with Pamplemousses Road; and,

(iii)     Pamplemousses Road from its junction with Ducray Street up to Vallee des Pretres Cross Road (Media Building.

(d)     On Friday 09.09.2022 as from 0600 to 1800 hours

Allee Pere Laval Street from its junction with Pamplemousses Road up to Pere Laval Church will be a One Way Street.

DIVERSION OF TRAFFIC

(e)     On Thursday 08.09.2022 as from 16.00 hrs to 0200 hrs on Friday 09.09.2022.

(i)      Buses leaving Immigration Square will be diverted on to the New Trunk Road to proceed to the North;

(ii)     Vehicular traffic coming from the North on Old Royal Road, Terre Rouge will, when reaching junction Pamplemousses Road and Riche Terre Road be diverted onto Riche Terre Road towards Riche Terre Round About to New Trunk Road to proceed to the South; and,

(iii)     Buses on routine trips to the North will use New Trunk Road up to Terre Rouge Round About, then be diverted into Old Royal Road, Terre Rouge to disembark and embark passengers and back to New Trunk Road through Riche Terre Road to proceed to the North.

(f)      Route for vehicular traffic motoring along New Trunk Road and bound for Vallee Des Pretres and Plaine Verte on Thursday 08.09.2022 as from 1600 hours to 0200 hours on Friday 09.09.2022.

(i)      Vehicular traffic (except for buses and vehicle more than 12 metres motoring along New Trunk Road either from the North or from the South or from the direction of Tombeau Bay and proceeding either towards Vallee des Pretres or Plaine Verte will, when reaching Roche Bois Round About be diverted onto Abatoire Street onto Military Road, Pamplemousses Road, Plaine Verte towards their respective destinations.

Route to Pere Laval Church For Official Vehicles

(ii)     All Official vehicles motoring along the New Trunk Road and exhibiting a “PASS” when proceeding towards Pere Laval Church and reaching Cocoterie Round About be diverted onto Cocoterie Road via Ducray Street, Pamplemousses Road onto Pieton Pere Laval,Ste Croix Road, Le Cornu Street and Pere Pivault Street and Ste Marie Road.

Way Out For Official Vehicles From Pere Laval Church – Ste Croix

(iii)     Official vehicles leaving Pere Laval Church and proceeding towards Khadafi Square will do so along Ste Marie Road straightaway up to Cite La Cure Bus Stand, Reverand Snepp Street and thereafter, exit along Bernardin de St Pierre Street and Vallee des Pretres Cross Road towards their destination.

Route for vehicles proceeding towards Cite La Cure

(iv)    Vehicles proceeding towards Cite La Cure will do so via Bernardin de St Pierre Street, Vallee des Pretres.

PARKING OF VEHICLES

Vehicles should be parked at the following reserved parking spaces:

(g)     Cite La Cure Bus Stand;

(h)     Along the thoroughfares of Morcellement La Vallee; and,

(i)      In the yard of St Gabriel College.

PROHIBITED PARKING

No vehicles will be allowed to park along the following thoroughfares :

(j)      Pamplemousses Road from its junction with Riche Terre Road near Bazire Bridge, Ste Croix up to Vallee des Pretres Cross Road;

(k)     Nicolay Road from its junction with Military Road up to Abercrombie Round About;

(l)      Cocoterie Road from its junction with Nicolay Road up to Cocoterie Round about;

(m)    Pieton Pere Laval from its junction with Pamplemousses Road up to that with Ste Croix and Ste Marie Roads; and,

(n)     Ste Marie Road from its junction with Ste Croix Road up to that with Sophia Lane.

BUSES

(o)     Disembarkation Point on Thursday 08.09.2022 as from 1600 to 0200 hours on 09.09.2022.

(i)      All Special Route Buses as well as those from Port Louis on routine trips and bound for Pere Laval Church will disembark their passengers along Ducray Street, Ste Croix; and,

(ii)     Buses from the Northern and Eastern part of the island and bound for Pere Laval Church will disembark passengers at the bus stop near Dhanush Stone Crusher, Terre Rouge.

(p)     Embarkation Point On Thursday 08.09.2022 as from 1600 hours to 0600 hours on 09.09.2022.

Special Route Buses awaiting passengers will park on the left of the road along Military Road when facing Ex.British American Tobacco (BAT), and buses on routine trips will embark passengers as hereunder:-

(i)      At an improvised bus stop along Pamplemousses Road near Riche Terre Branch Road for passengers bound for the Northern and Eastern part of the island; and

(ii)              At the bus stop located along Pamplemoussses Road, Ste Croix near Pyneeandee Shop (near junction of Ducray Street) for passengers bound for Port Louis and for the Southern part of the island.

(q)     Bus Stop (not operational on Thursday 08.09.2022 as from 1600 hours to 0200 hours on Friday 09.09.2022).

The bus stop along Nicolay Road adjacent to Ex Abercrombie Police Married Quarters and that along Pamplemousses Road near Abercrombie Police Station and all other bus stops within the prohibited zone will not be operational as embarkation and disembarkation points for passengers.

TAXI STAND

As from 1600 hours on Thursday 08.09.2022 to 0200 hours on Friday 09.09.2022, the actual Abercrombie Taxi Stand at Ducray Street, Ste Croix will not be operational.

JUDICIAL PROCEEDINGS

Non compliance with these traffic arrangements will entail judicial proceedings.
