The Hon A Ganoo, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade led the Mauritius delegation to the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), which was held from 27 to 28 August 2022 in Tunisia.
The TICAD Summit, which saw the participation of 48 African countries, adopted the Tunis Declaration which focuses on the importance of sound development finance based on 3 developmental pillars, namely:
(i) Realising structural transformation for sustainable economic growth and social development;
(ii) Realising a resilient and sustainable society; and
(iii) Realising sustainable peace and stability
In the margins of the Summit the Hon. Minister, A. Ganoo held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr Yoshimasa Hayashi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan. Mauritius and Japan reiterated their commitment to work on issues of mutual interest at bilateral and international levels. During the meeting Minister Hayashi also informed that Japan will shortly announce the setting up of a Bilateral Business Facilitation Committee with Mauritius.
At the Summit, the Hon. Minister also met with the President of Tunisia, H.E. Mr. Kais Saied and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, H.E. Mr Othman Jerandi, and discussion focused on furthering the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries as well as the economic integration of Africa.
