Three Swords, A Knife, A Baton And A Revolver Seized At Residence Vallijee

A whole arsenal of weapons was seized on Wednesday afternoon, November 24, during a police raid at Residence Vallijee at the home of Steward Jean Noël Kissoon on Avenue Oaks. Police officers from the Bain des Dames police station proceeded to the arrest of this 45-year-old handy worker after the discovery in one of the rooms of this house used as a warehouse, three sands, a knife, a baton, a vest with pockets for men with the inscription Swat, a pair of handcuffs and a pair of radio for communication among others. The suspect was arrested and placed in custody on a provisional charge of illegal possession of firearms.

Illegal Weapon Seized

It is on the basis of certain information that a team of police officers from the Bain de Dames police station, led by Inspector Papiah, arrived at the home of Jean Noël Kissoon around 2:45 pm on Wednesday, November 24. Armed with a search warrant, a search was conducted at his home. In one of the rooms of the house, which had been converted into a warehouse, the police found a blue polyethylene bag containing three pieces of sand measuring thirty centimetres, forty-four centimeters and forty-five centimeters respectively. In a polyester bag they found a vest with pockets yet the inscription Swat, in one of these pockets there was a knife whose blade is of fifteen centimeters in its leather case, a pair of handcuffs, a baton-torch of twenty-five centimeters, a knife with a blade of ten centimetres, a pair of radio communication and a revolver loaded in a case.

Confronted with these items by Inspector Papiah, Jean Noël Kissoon had to declare, “pa pou mwa sa missie”. Arrested, he was taken to the police station of Bain des Dames for questioning. In his statement, he said he was framed by his wife from whom he is separated. According to a first observation of the police officers who participated in this operation, the revolver was a fake. The gun was taken to the police armoury for a preliminary report to the investigators before the “weapon” was sent to the ballistics section of the Forensic Science Laboratory in Reduit.

Jean Noël Kissoon was subsequently placed in a cell at the Alcatraz detention center at the Central Barracks. On Thursday, November 25, he was brought before the Port-Louis court before being released on bail.
