He was speaking during the launching ceremony of the second edition of a two-day Education and Job Meet, organised as part of activities to mark the International Youth Day 2022. The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint, and other personalities were present.

International Youth Day is commemorated annually on 12 August to bring youth matters to the attention of the community and celebrate the potential of youth as partners in today’s global society. The theme for 2022 is “Intergenerational solidarity: creating a world for all ages.”

In his address, Prime Minister Jugnauth said that Government is stepping up efforts to provide the youth with job opportunities, and professional and vocational training to help them unlock their potential and choose the most appropriate career path.

The Prime Minister underlined that the Job Meet aims to provide a platform to the youth to have interactive dialogues, enhance their job search network and provide them guidance on their career path. Several sectors, he indicated, are being promoted during the two days including Artificial Intelligence, ICT, and tourism. He made an appeal to the youth to come forth and benefit from the platform.

He underlined that during the last years some 12,000 youngsters have benefitted from the National Youth Civic Service Programme, which aims at empowering and shaping the character of the youth. Some 12,000 young people have engaged in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, while around 1,000 have benefitted from youth entrepreneurial programmes, he added.
