The Supreme Court Reserved Its Decision On The Dispute Involving Senior Counsel Désiré Basset

Must Read

The arguments of all parties have been heard. Justice Nirmal Devat, assisted by Justices Iqbal Maghooa and Carol Green-Jokhoo have reserved their decision. On Monday morning, the Bar Council was invited to come and explain its position on the ethical issue involving Me Désiré Basset. Maxime Sauzier, who represents the Bar Council, explained that it is up to a lawyer to decide whether to continue representing a client or to withdraw. Through a circular, the lawyers of the different parties will be informed of the date of the next session. As a reminder, Me Antoine Domingue, Suren Dayal’s lawyer, contests the presence of Me Désiré Basset on the panel of lawyers of Pravind Jugnauth. Basset was a member of the Electoral Supervisory Commission when Rezistans ek Alternativ submit a copy of the Kistnen Papers and requested an investigation. Désiré Basset, however, believes that he is in no way embarrassed by this matter. He has already indicated that he does not intend to step down as the Prime Minister’s lawyer.
