The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Showcased The Profound Indo-Mauritian Ties – Says Minister Teeluck

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention, which is a flagship event of the Indian Government, is highly symbolical for Mauritius as it showcases the profound long-lasting relationship that the country shares with India, said the Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck, yesterday, during a meeting in Port-Louis.

The High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Mrs K. Nandini Singla, was also present at the meeting which discussed the ongoing preparations for the visit of the Mauritian delegation to the 17th PBD which will be held from 08 to 10 January 2023 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The meeting also aimed at addressing issues raised during the previous participation of the Mauritian delegation in 2019 at the PBD and to ensure the success of the forthcoming visit.

The Minister announced that a registration desk has been set up to facilitate the registrations of any group or individual in terms of flight arrangements, hotel reservations, transportation, as well as to tackle any issues that the delegation might face during the visit.

Minister Teeluck recalled that for the 16th Convention in 2019, the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, was the Chief Guest and highlighted that this reflects the strong bond that the Government of India shares with Mauritius. The PBD is an important platform to engage and connect with the overseas Indian Diaspora, he further added.

For her part, Mrs Singla said that the PBD is taking place after four years, under the theme Diaspora: Reliable partners for India’s progress in Amrit Kaal. She underlined that during the previous Conventions, Mauritius has had the highest number of participants adding that India is looking forward to welcome a wider number of Mauritians for the PBD 2023.
