The PM Assures That Diego Garcia Military Base Will Continue To Operate

“Any agreement between Mauritius and the UK will ensure the continued operation of the Diego Garcia military base!. This is what Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth said at a reception organised in honour of members of the diplomatic corps at Pointe-aux-Piments on Thursday. He added that the military base in Diego Garcia “plays a vital role in regional and global security”. Pravind Jugnauth also stated that he was “encouraged” that Mauritius and the United Kingdom have decided to enter into negotiations on the exercise of sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago in view of reaching an agreement based on international law by early next year.
