A 43 year old teacher, living in Plaine des Papayes, was reported to the Family Protection Squad of the Northern Division by a 16 year old girl on the evening of Thursday March 31. The teenager who was taking private lessons with this teacher explained how she was emotionally manipulated by this man who contracted a religious nikah (marriage) with her on December 30, 2021. This teacher, Ally Ackbar Roshanally was arrested during the day on Friday, April 1. As for the minor, she was admitted to the northern hospital where the protocol for victims of sexual abuse has been put in place.
It was in the presence of her sister-in-law that the victim gave her statement to a female sergeant assigned to the family protection brigade on the evening of Thursday 31 March. First, she made the history of her relationship with this teacher that she knows since 2019. This because she was taking private lessons at his home in Plaine des Papayes.
Thursday afternoon, March 31, she was walking along the Royal Road in Pamplemousses when Ackbar Roshanally who was driving a black car slowed down at her height. The forty-year-old, she says, forced her to get into the vehicle. He drove in the direction of the government school in Pamplemousses and stopped near the playground. The teacher then came to sit on the back seats next to her. The minor explained that while he was conversing with her, he began to caress her body before kissing her on her lips and neck.
In August of last year, this teacher had proposed to her. Since then he has not stopped manipulating her emotionally to love her. On September 18, after the lesson class, when all the students had left, he had caressed her body before inserting his hand under her jeans. On several occasions during the month of October, the student confides, her lesson teacher had tried to have sexual relations with her at her home. This teacher says she also made him do an odious act on his person.
The day before New Year’s Eve, the schoolgirl says her teacher made her do the nikah at her home in Plaine des Papayes. It was around 14 hours in front of an imam. During the day of Friday April 1, Ackbar Roshanally was arrested by a special police team. He admitted that the girl was taking lessons with him and that they had been in love for three months. The girl, he said, had stopped her lessons since January this year because of a disagreement with her parents. If he admits to having already grabbed her in his arms, he says he never had relations with her. The teacher says he kissed his student on her birthday. After spending a night in a cell at the Rivière du Rempart police station, Ackbar Roshanally was brought before the Bail and Remand Court in Port-Louis on Saturday, April 2. He was later returned to his cell.
