Sustainable Consumption: 30 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations To Be Set Up By End 2025

A total of 30 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations will be set up over the island by the end of 2025 to promote sustainable consumption and meet the energy requirements of the anticipated increase in electric vehicles on our roads. The announcement was made by the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade , Mr Alan Ganoo, this afternoon, at the unveiling of the new brand name and visual identity of the first TotalEnergies service station at Belle Vue.

The Ambassador of the Republic of France, Mrs Florence Caussé-Tissier; the Executive Vice President Mediterranean and Indian Ocean Dvision of TotalEnergies, Mr Olivier Van Parys; the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Dr Marie Christiane Dorine Chukowry; and the Managing Director of TotalEnergies, Mr Frédéric Rivière, were also present at the ceremony.

In his address, Minister Ganoo recalled that TotalEnergies has been the first company to provide charging facilities for electric vehicles, through service stations of Total, Belle Vue and Total, Tamarin. He extended his appreciation to the company for being a partner in assisting Government to achieve the 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emission by 2030 to reach the COP26 target.

This rebranding strategy, he said, including the introduction of new products tagged “EcoSolution” showcases the company’s ability to innovate and contribute to the sustainable development of the country while being a forefront player with regard to energy transition. TotalEnergies, present for the last 65 years in Mauritius, currently has 48 petrol stations across the country. With its rebranding, from Total to TotalEnergies, it has as objectives to diversify its services and work towards the production and supply of clean and reliable multi-energy to the public.

Speaking of sustainable initiatives, Minister Ganoo dwelt on the increase in the number of electric vehicles, amounting to 623 registered at the National Land Transport Authority as at 31 March 2022 and the introduction of electric buses in the public transport sector.

For her part, Ambassador Caussé-Tissier stressed on regional cooperation to address challenges in the face of climatic changes. She reiterated the support of France to Mauritius on various projects including the 400 low-carbon projects funded in Mauritius in various sectors under the SUNREF programme.

The important role of TotalEnergies to respond to the growing demands and the company’s ambition is to be a key player in the energy transition and to energise the future, was broached by Messrs Van Parys and Rivière.
