Suren Dayal Allowed To Appeal To The Privy Council

The defeated candidate in Constituency No 8 wants to challenge the rejection of his election petition by the Supreme Court. The matter was called before Senior Puisne Judge Nirmala Devat this morning. She gave the consent of the court to Suren Dayal. Last week, lawyers for the parties involved in the case, including the three elected member and the MBC, informed the court that they had no objection to the petitioner appealing the judgment to the privy council. Chief Justice Rehana Mungly-Gulbul, who was presiding over the hearing that day, had asked the petitioner’s lawyers to seek the advice of Atma Bumma, who was a co-respondent in the case. This morning, before the Senior Puisne Judge, Atma Bumma’s lawyer indicated that the defeated candidate had no objection either. As a result, Suren Dayal’s application was granted.
